For the longest time, YouTube as a platform seemed to be completely devoid of interesting and appealing menswear content – with some exception, the fashion community revolved around Zara, H&M, and other mass market sensibilities, far more in line with beginner fashion communities. Those that did fall outside of that dominant style generally did so within the womenswear community. Sangiev stands as the exception to this, with an absurdly high production standard, on par with most major fashion brands, and a style to match.
For his recent excursion to the resort town of Cannes on the southern coast of France, he provides us with a stunning execution featuring friends James and Enzo. Former student of Central Saint Martins College of menswear fashion design, he is no amateur to flattering the male figure, especially in light draping fabrics. With standout pieces like Haider Ackermann’s silk/cotton lounge pant in a stunning burgundy chevron and Alessandro Michele of house Gucci’s navy and white rugby striped five pocket trousers, he continues to evoke his signature “sophisticated pirate” vibe that blows most seasoned dressers out of the water. Friends James and Enzo nail the basics game with crisp shirts, expertly tailored trousers, and impressive footwear from Belgian designers Maison Martin Margiela and Dries Van Noten, among many other labels and designers. Some people ask me what I think perfection looks like in casual wear – this is it.
To these gentlemen I’ll leave you with this: keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll go far.
