Charlotte Emma Aitchison, better known as Charli XCX, is a British singer and songwriter that has made a name for herself in the UK and the U.S. Her music career began in the underground scene of UK Pop, mainly consisting of singing at raves when she was only 14 years old!
For most of us, we were unaware of her presence until she wrote and was featured on the hit “I Love It” by Icona Pop. She has become even more well-known since being featured on the massive hit “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea. Her song “Boom Clap,” was also on the soundtrack for the hit teen movie “Fault in Our Stars.”
A lot of times her name has been lost among all the other pop stars, such as Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. But her style and sound have a significant difference.
She brings a very raw and dark sound to pop music, which appeals to free spirited party-goers. While her original, eccentric style is entirely unique.
Aitchison’s style is inspired by vintage 90’s fashion, and she often wears pieces she has collected over the years. She says her style is a mix between the Spice Girls and Wednesday Addams from “The Addams Family.” She is easily identified by her big black hair; while I can guarantee there is not a day she is seen without her favorite shoes: platforms!
Just like her playful and empowering music, her wardrobe consists of chokers, shredded tights, bright colored crop tops, printed leggings and a lot of glitter. You will definitely have a trip back to the 90s while travelling through her closet.
An interesting fact about Aitchison, in a world of quickly transforming fashion, is that she does not believe in throwing away or getting rid of any of her clothes; for she feels she might always want it later or can usually reconstruct it to make into a completely new item.
Not only does her music appeal to the “young, wild and free” generation, she also presents herself as someone who wants to have fun with the way she dresses and performs.
Charli XCX has a fun and original style, and it should be interesting to see how her music and style evolves over time. So maybe take a page from Aitchison’s looks and have a little fun with your style!
