If you are one of the many people whose New Year’s resolutions was to finally get to the gym, or you are hoping to finally get that summer body you promise yourself every year, you are not alone. In fact, many people would agree that getting to the gym is the hardest part of working out!
Finding enough time in the day can seem like an impossible feat. Also, once you are out of shape, getting in shape can be daunting, while regular gym goers can seem intimidating. Or maybe you are in the category of people who make it to the gym, yet wander around awkwardly, not knowing which machine to use and instead resorting to the treadmill because it is the only thing you know how to use.
Well, if you are in any of the categories, you are likewise not alone. But do not worry, for we have come up with a few tips to help get you to the gym, and once there, have a better workout.
Get up early and get it done. Although there is absolutely nothing in the world more difficult or painful than having to drag yourself out of bed at the crack of dawn, squeezing a workout in before you start your day is one of the most productive and rewarding things you can do.
Getting your exercise in early has many benefits, with the most common and helpful being that you feel more awake and alert, even though you woke up earlier. Another benefit of working out in the morning is that you will be more motivated to make healthy choices throughout the day. Likewise, waking up early and getting a workout in is an effective way to give your metabolism a little boost throughout the day. But one of the most important and helpful benefits of working out in the morning is that you will be less likely to skip a workout, for if you get it done right away there is less of a chance of something getting in the way or you coming up with an excuse to bow out of a good sweat session.
Make a habit of it: Once you have gotten in the habit of going to the gym consistently, you will find that it becomes part of your daily routine, and that you do not want to miss a day. Working out regularly not only has many physical benefits, but also many mental benefits, such as keeping you calmer and more focused.
Similarly, working out causes your body to produce more endorphins – chemicals produced by the brain – which can give you a happy and uplifting feeling. That good feeling often translates to you actually enjoying the gym… and coming back again and again.
Research and prepare a routine: If you are one of those people who wanders around the gym feeling uncomfortable because you do not know what to do, then it is time to do some research and prepare a full-proof gym routine. Having a set routine not only helps you know exactly what you are going to do at the gym, but it also helps you get your workout done quicker. There are many easy ways to get ideas for workouts, such as reading workout websites, magazines or blogs or just looking up a health and fitness board on Pinterest.
Hopefully these three easy tips on how to get to the gym and keep going, will help you get that beach body you have always dreamed about. Working out may sometimes seem like the worst, but if you make some smart decisions and get into a routine you might find that it can actually be quite fun!
