We have all seen the little pink, egg shaped sponge that sits on the shelves of beauty stores everywhere. It is interesting and sure, you think, I will give it a try. Then you look at the $20 price tag and whoa! Is this sponge really worth that?
According to Sephora.com, the beauty blender is “an edgeless, non-disposable, high definition cosmetic sponge applicator.” Basically, this is a sponge that is made to apply foundation, concealer and any other cream products. The sponge needs to be wetted first, which will cause it to double in size. The beauty blender is unique in that it features an “open cell structure” that becomes filled with the water. This means that the makeup you apply will not be absorbed back into the sponge, which is great because it means you can use less product when applying.
If you have ever applied face products with a typical sponge you know the quality of coverage is much better than using just your fingers or a brush. This is because a sponge provides flawless, even coverage. While a brush can do something similar, there is always that chance of brush strokes showing up. While sponges are the best, the beauty blender is even better because it gives you that even coverage you expect, while not absorbing nearly as much product.
The damp nature of the beauty blender allows makeup to interact flawlessly with your skin. It is impossible to get the “cakey” effect with because it evenly distributes even the most full coverage foundations. The useful egg shape enables you to bounce the sponge across your face using the larger, rounded side, while the option to turn the sponge around to the pointed edge allows you to seamlessly blend in concealer around the eyes, nose and mouth area. The beauty blender can really give you that “airbrushed finish” that we all so desire.
The $20 price tag on this small little sponge may seem a bit intimidating, but trust us when we say it is well worth your money. Most foundation brushes cost about the same price and will often leave you with brush strokes or uneven coverage. The beauty blender will change the way you apply your makeup, for the better. The hype is definitely real on this little egg.
