This year’s Super Bowl is between probably the two most hated teams in the NFL: the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. For Broncos fans especially it is probably a tough call on who to cheer for. The memory of last year’s Super Bowl still hangs in the air, while the rivalry between the Patriots and the Broncos is still alive and well. So if you are still on the fence for who to root for on February 1st then read on for two sides of the game and choose for yourself.
Why the Patriots should win.
Deflategate. Bill Beli-cheat. Pretty Boy. The amount of nicknames that surrounds the number one team in the AFC is lengthy. But even with all of those nicknames, there is no denying the fact that the boys from New England are the real deal.
Back in 2002 the Patriots were hailed as American heroes, as it was the first Super Bowl game post 9/11. There was a sense of symbolism that the “patriots” from Boston (the place many have called the home of the American Revolution and subsequent independence) had shown a unified spirit and prospered. But fast forward to 2015 and we now view the same team as the “enemy”.
But there is no reason to view the Patriots as the bad guys. In truth they deserve praise for everything they have accomplished, including winning three Super Bowls in four years, all with a quarterback that was picked in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft (he actually came in to the Patriots as their fourth string QB). Not to mention many of the Patriots stars were picked up as free agents after failing to make other teams starting squads, like Julian Edelman who was a free agent drafted in the seventh round and Danny Amendola another free agent picked that the Pats picked up from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.
But let’s talk a little more about Mr. Brady for a second. Many naysayers criticize him for his interests outside football, like his modeling gigs with UGG or his magazine spreads in men’s magazines like VMAN Magazine. Also, some people seem to have a problem with his wife, the highest paid model in the world, Gisele Bundchen. But really people, get over it. So what if the guy has interests outside football. It really should not matter what he does in his free time as long as he is winning games, and also, I do not see people complaining about Peyton Manning being in Papa John’s commercials.
Yes, the Patriots are a tough team to root for, especially with all the bad blood between them and the Bronco’s. But would you not rather cheer for them come Super Bowl Sunday than the Seahawks? Tom Brady is probably not the nicest guy in the world, or the most classy (he has been fined multiple times for on air swearing), but there is no denying the fact that he is a whole lot better than some of the players on the Seahawks roster, especially the infuriatingly obnoxious cornerback Richard Sherman.
If you do not know who I am talking about then simply Google his name and I am sure multiple videos will come up of him loudly explaining to anyone who will listen that he is the best cornerback in the league. Though he probably is (I hate to say it) there is no reason for him to shove it down everyone’s throat or scream it in every press conference. If you want to see exactly what I am talking about, take a look at this video and make your own opinion on the guy.
Why the Seahawks should win.
Even if you are not a football fan there is something about the Super Bowl that just draws people in. for most of us, unless our team happens to be playing in the actual game, we care more about the commercials and half time show than the actual game. This year is going to be no different. While many football fans likely hate both teams playing in Arizona they will still tune in because it is the “American” thing to do (or they just like Katy Perry).
