One of the most popular Halloween make up ideas and costumes, and not just for trick-or-treating, but for other festivities as well, is the zombie look. So here is an easy tutorial on how to achieve the perfect, “just back from the dead, man-eating” look:
For this look you will need:
- Green or purple tinted concealer or foundation base
- A foundation a few shades lighter than your skin
- Baby powder
- Matte black eye shadow
- Red lipstick/fake blood
- Optional: liquid latex and tissues
The first step is to create “dead” looking skin. Apply your tinted concealer or base all over your face. Then apply your foundation all over in the same way. Your skin should begin to look like it is decaying.
Next, to create the appearance of a sunken in face, take your black eye shadow and blend it into the hollows of your face- under the cheek bones, along your forehead, under your jaw and if you really want to go “full-zombie” then along your collarbones and down your neck. A good way to judge where to apply is to stand under a light source and follow the natural shadows that it creates. Make sure to keep a light hand when applying the eye shadow; you can always add more later. Then apply the eye shadow to your eye lids and lower lash lines. Try to make them look like they have sunken in about an inch.
Add the baby powder all over your face to set the eyes shadow and keep it from running. The white powder will also make it all look more realistic.
If you want to go above and beyond and make some torn flesh; then use the liquid latex and tissues. Pour a little latex onto a paper plate and peel a few tissues into layers. Paint a thin layer of latex onto where you want to create your bite, cut, etc. Then apply the tissue in thin layers onto your “wound” area. Keep layering until you are happy with the effect. Make sure to let it dry, you do not want to waste all of your hard work.
Finally apply the red lipstick or fake blood. Add it to your lips to make it look like you just got back from a nice, filling lunch; or onto your face for a more blood-smeared effect. If you do not want to mess with the latex, just apply fake blood or red lipstick anywhere you want to look like you have blood coming out of you. You can even darken the red lipstick with the little black eye shadow to make it look old and dried.
Dressing up as a zombie is a fun, and relatively easy, costume idea. And with so much zombie themed events going on around town and on campus it is likely that you can find at least one party to show off your amazing art skills.
